TRADITIONAL DANCE SEMINARS
One of the main elements that have characterised / characteristic of Greeks through the ages is dance. In ancient Greece it was an essntial tool for the education of young men and was a mandatory class. The advantages of dance go far beyond the mere exercise of the body and are particularly obvious and tactile when dance acts as a means to transpond culture.
The great variety of traditional dances as well as the immense diversity of style, colour, dress and sound within Greece, are the contributing factors that have led me to create this webpage. Through this page, you will meet the dance instructor Mr Emmanuel Ruma Chalkidios.
ContactA few words about myself
I was born in May, 1980 in the Southern Aegean and, more specifically, on
the island of Kos. Born and raised in a family of dancers, it was only natural
for me to learn to dance before I could even walk.
At the age of five, I was enrolled at the School of Traditional Dances of the
Greek Lyceum, Department od Kos, where I still remain as the dance
instructor of adult learners.
In the 37 years of my active interest and engagement in dance, combined
with my personal quest, I have travelled, walked and danced all over Greece.
I have met local peoples, followed in the same footsteps as their ancestors
and sung songs that, by word of mouth, transfer the history, culture and
customs of our land.
- I have taken part in seminars, dance performances and cultural events in
Greece and abroad with great success. - As a “hunter” of “panygyria” , I have stepped / tredded on authentic,
inapproachable places. - Lover of instruments and amateur percussionist myself, I have appeared in
local bands and taken part in theatrical performances with music both from
Greece and Asia. - I have, furthermore, directed as well as instructed perfoemers in plays.
- I have held traditional dance seminars in every corner of Greece, specialising
in the primal authentic style, in personal as well as group advancement /
growthso we could become more aware of the greek culture
